Scott Lutz
Principal
Scott Lutz is a go-to-market strategist and activator with more than 25 years building new products, new sales channels and new markets — for some of the world’s biggest brands and some of its newest — across technology, energy, retail, professional services, higher education and the nonprofit sector. He is as comfortable in a board meeting as he is on a front-line sales call or a factory floor.
Trained in IT and production/operations management, Scott moved early into sales and marketing and has since led product strategy, marketing, sales and delivery for industry leaders Phillips 66, General Electric, J.D. Edwards/PeopleSoft and SAP, along with fast-growing midsize companies and startups.
Since 2013, he has worked as a consultant and interim CMO, helping organizations such as Anthem Blue Cross Blue Shield, DSI, Lenovo, Point Loma University, Prison Fellowship, Kingland Systems, Moose International, UDT and others build brand strategies and market engagement programs that accelerate growth.
Before consulting, Scott spent seven years as SAP’s vice president of SMB Global Marketing, where he led the simultaneous 10-country launch of SAP Business ByDesign — the company’s first cloud-native SaaS ERP — owning awareness, demand generation and sales enablement across direct and indirect channels while continuing to run the rest of the SMB portfolio. It is at SAP that he first partnered with Mereo to develop and pilot a groundbreaking B2B influencer channel program that produced more than $20 million in US software and services revenue in its first year. Additionally, Scott engaged Mereo to lead the development and execution of sales tools and training for the SAP Business ByDesign direct sales force.
He joined SAP from J.D. Edwards, where he led ERP product marketing through the PeopleSoft acquisition and owned the market requirements process across the full ERP, CRM and SCM portfolio. Earlier, at General Electric, he ran AlliancePoint, GE IT Distribution’s enterprise software line of business, building pre-integrated hardware-and-software offerings and new channels for vendors including Baan, Lawson, Business Objects, Oracle and Microsoft. With HP, he created the first turnkey ERP solution sold with a performance guarantee, cutting a 12-day installation cycle to four hours — a result compelling enough that KPMG and Deloitte standardized their ERP implementation services on it.
His career began at Phillips 66, advancing through IT, market intelligence and wholesale and retail operations with P&L responsibility for 10 branded distributors, 100+ retail sites and seven company-owned flagship stores.
Scott holds a bachelor’s degree in management information systems from the University of Oklahoma. He has stayed close to his technical roots through software development and AI projects with his AppFluid venture and is a space enthusiast active in NASA civilian programs. When not on a mountaintop, he is doing astrophotography in the Rocky Mountains or mending fences on his property on the eastern plains of Colorado, or pack burro racing, trail running or otherwise outside in the Colorado, where he lives with his family.
